I'm wet pt. 2: I'm dry-ish

I've been busy with everything, but I wanted to give you a kind of an update. I've been working on the apartment, bagging up garbage, which is roughly 90% of what was in there (it didn't get to the cans in the cupboard. Hooray for... carrots? Who bought canned carrots?). The building has been condemned so I have to get stuff done as quickly as I can. It's not easy work, the whole place reeks of rot. All kinds of lovely molds springing up everywhere. The carpet is like walking on a wet sponge, and there's mud on everything .

My brother and I both have to find jobs and a new place here in the next couple weeks, which considering that half the state is a disaster zone, is no small task. As such I really don't know how long before I'll really be able to get back to writing. And reading. I'm missing reading everyone's posts. Hopefully I'll be able to get things straightened out in the next couple weeks. You get the Nutella, I'll make tea and tell stories (this statement should be read in a grandmother's voice). I don't have much time for posting but I will try and update here occasionally.

And who knows, if I can't sleep (I have insomnia, safe bet) I might even write some posts and give my head a break.

In the meantime, here's some pictures:

My backyard. This was two minutes before I left. As I was walking the water rose so quick that in short time I was pretty much waste deep.

This was yesterday. The water has since receded to back beyond the trees.

Another angle for a little perspective.

I figured I might as well try to get something nice out of this, so I took some "artistic" shots.

If you recall my review of frames, I talked about a horrible painting. This be it.

Nice quiet drive up to the lake?

Look at that view, just stretching on.

Wait what's that? Oh that's all you can see of the baseball diamond. Yup, that's not a lake, it's the park immediately on the other side of the ravine behind my place. A two minute walk to a park lake.

Why must the children always suffer? Oh wait, that's a picture of me. One of the few I ever liked. I'm happy with bubbles in this shot. It's a little muddy but I've cleaned it up since.

That's it for today. Thank you everyone for the kind comments and notes you've sent. It means a lot.

  1. That really stinks - in more ways than one. I'm missing your blogging, but I keep sending good thoughts/prayers. Good luck to you and your bro in getting out from under.
    Stay safe.

  3. Oh man, it sounds like you've got quite the task ahead of you. Just think of it like a quest. And when you're done, you...well...you won't get a grail or a title or a princess or anything. But you'll have a cool new place and a job and time to blog and write witty comments on other peoples stuff.

Until then, good luck. Keeping you in my prayers. Hopefully you can get everything taken care of and get back to the wonderful world of writing soon! We miss you!

  5. I know some folks around there who probably have some free (and dry) floor space. They're on a ridge so all they got was a tree through their deck!

Drop me an email if you want me to see what I can hook up - theonlymegan AT gmail.com.

    Hang in there.

  7. That's very kind of you, thanks for the offer. I do have some friends who have offered to let me stay with them, so I'm doing alright. Just trying to figure things out.

  8. Good Luck buddy. I know that these kind of situations reveal character but who the hell ever needs character building? Let it build while I sleep and am happy - not when I am stressed. Glad you are okay and you have your brother with you. Hope everything is back to normal again soon.

  20. Awww TS. I'm so sorry. That little kid pic was so cute too. We will continue to keep you and your bro in our thoughts I'm sure. That line about the tea and Nutella made me so sad, I'm the only Italian who has never had the stuff.
