Scott Pilgrim vs The World - <-- Only movie I care about this weekend.

Now I suppose you might think with a statement like that that I'm knocking the other movies. On the contrary, from the moment it was first announced I've been anticipating The Expendables. It's just unfortunate that it's being released the same weekend as Scott Pilgrim, the movie I've been waiting all summer to see.  Do I think it'll live up to that kind of expectation? Yes. I loved the comics. Edgar Wright is one of the best directors currently working and the cast is phenomenal. Everything I've seen and heard is that it's fantastic. So while other movies are coming out this week, they can wait a while.

I do want to comment on Eat Pray Love. I know it'll probably be a big hit with Julia Roberts fans but personally the ads for this have done nothing for me. Other than one I saw where it was the author of the book it's based on saying pretty much that, they've really shown nothing more than Julia Roberts. I think every year we're getting closer to there being a movie made that's just called Julia Roberts and stars her for two hours just sitting there emoting. If I end up seeing this for some unknown reason (these things do happen) I'm hoping James Franco would help to somewhat redeem it. But as it stands just from the previews I doubt that's possible.

You may have noticed I've put up some pages now to sort of help with finding certain things. I'm working on a couple more but would like to know if there is anything you think I'm missing that should be archived for easier searching.

Have a great weekend everyone.

  3. Can't wait to hear what you think of the only movie worth seeing this weekend!

    Also, I loathe Julia. Loathe.

  4. I was sure that you would be eating, praying and loving the weekend away. Hmm, you think you know someone.

I want to take my life each time I see the commercial for that movie. At least with it starting those will go away. Maybe they should have had the Expendable hunt her down to the death. After all Javier Bardem played a serial killer in 'No Country For Old Men'. Am I hoping for too much?

Scott Pilgrim looks very good though. I loved the comic book series and I am not someone who dislikes Michael Cera. Afterall he was in 'Nick and Nora' Plus Anna Kendrick is it this one too.

  5. Marlene, I should have review of it up next week.

Kal I really like Cera myself. Nick and Nora is an excellent film. Also enjoyed youth in revolt. Plus it's directed by Edgar Wright who can do no wrong in my eyes. Every pun intended.

Alex, it just looks horrid doesn't it?

  6. Yeah I'm interesting in a legit review too ... you could have a 'joking aside ...' section where you sincerely recommend movies/music/whatever.

  7. I like the pages! I have to do something similar for my blog, which is getting a bit cluttered with features and what not, and no real way to reference them.

I'm also psyched for Scott Pilgrim. I'm seeing it Sunday with a friend, which should be awesome.

  8. I'm not going to argue over EPL, nope. I was given the book but had misgivings about reading it.

However, it just kept laying there... So I caved. Should have gone with my gut. But hey, don't take my word for it... Oprah loved it. What more proof do you need?

So nope, not going to devote another minute of my life to that story... no matter if it is Julia *sigh* Roberts in the starring role.

  10. Met my son down at the metroplex for a friday night movie. Haven't gone out like that in quite a while, but both our spouses were occupied, so we decided to hang out together.

Unfortunately, every movie in the 8pm-9pm time period was sold out. I was amazed. Had no idea that business was booming like that.

I had ordered tickets in advance online, but something went amiss and they weren't there waiting for us when we arrived.

So it was back to DVDs on the couch.

  11. Sorry, it wasn't clear. What movie should I see this weekend?
OK, I hadn't planned on it but if you could ditch reviewing all the other movies to make room for this one, then I'm willing to give it a try. But forgoing 2hrs of Ms. Roberts won't be a sacrifice on my part, I assure you. - G

  12. C.Biddy - I thought we were going to EPL together? Oh, yeah, you broke up with me and forgot to tell me. *sigh* I'll just have to find another friend who appreciates Julio the way I do.

TS - yes, you're exactly right about fair Julio, she is now a one woman show, playing herself in annoying role after annoying role. Diane Keaton and Meg Ryan have taken the same pill. Scott Pilgrim it is.

  13. Pass on Julie Roberts...can't wait to see The Expendables...oddly I have not seen any trailers for Scott Pilgram, but if you are seeing it I guess I should at least check it out!

  14. I take it you like it! I will be seeing this one for sure.
Have you done Julie Roberts Roberts yet?
    You know what I mean...

  15. To be fair, Eat Pray Love was really good. But, only if you're a chick (like me) and totally lost in life (like me) and searching for something "more" (like me) and wishing you had an infinite supply of cash money with which to take long, pointless, and totally self-serving vacations to foreign lands (like me). I see why you went with Scott Pilgrim.

So, after all that hype, what did you think??

  16. Sooo planning on seeing Expendables and Scott Pilgrim ASAP.

And agreed on Eat Pray Love. Part of my thinks I would actually like the movie, most of me thinks I should just read the book and the rest of me thinks the story will drive me to drink as I am suffering a major travel bug right now.
