The Non-Review Turns One

I could get all gushy and make a long winded speech about what I've learned and taken from my first year of blogging, but that's not really my style. Instead as I have hit that milestone, I figure, the best thing to do is to review the first year. What better way than breaking it down by months and rating it by the numbers?

Let's see how I did:

When all the numbers are crunched it figures out to an average of 4.25 out of 10. I'm nothing if not a harsh critic of myself. The good news is, I have a lot of room for improvement. I don't know for how long I'll keep blogging. My poetry blog has been going for 4 or 5 years now, but I only update that about once a month. Still if that's any indication, I'm not the kind to pick something up and then casually discard it. I would like to think that next year at this time, I'll be celebrating a second year with hopefully a higher average.

And now some sentimentality...

I would never have kept going this long if I hadn't had all you fine people commenting and sharing in the insanity. I can't thank everyone or this post would go on forever. Instead I would just like to say thank you to all of you who have stopped by to read and comment, and especially those who still do (I told you to run when you had the chance, now you're stuck). It really has meant a lot.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've been blogging for a year and I think I'll lay down for a bit.

  5. For some reason I thought The Non-Review had been around a lot longer.

Congrats! TNR is one of my favorite blogs on the net. Hopefully you'll have a year full of Aprils in 2011.

  6. Congrats! I must admit though, in Blogger the thumbnail screenshot looked like it said "Colostomy Balloon." I was glad to see it said "Celebratory Balloon" when I got here. Whew!

  7. Great staying power. Sorry to hear about the colostomy. Are you worried about being patted down?

  8. I just wanted to say congrats on the one year. Really, your blog throughout this year has been wildly entertaining and the progress and growth have been amazing.

Also, this is my first time visiting your blog, but um, the celebratory balloon inspired me to celebrate.

I'm sure everything I said earlier is absolutely true.

    Hooray to one more year,
    Lorraine

  9. A 4.5? Talk about harsh! You're still my favorite blogger, and I'm so glad to see that you bypassed 200 at this milestone. CONGRATULATIONS, TS!

  13. Budd, I wish I could say I'd earned another .01, but alas, the numbers don't lie.

Maria, Thank you. I as well.

    Alex, Thank you sir.

Marlene, Thanks. Who knows, maybe I'll get crazy and aim for two years. lol

Camel, I thought it'd been around longer too. Common misconception.

Wally & SuciƓ, I am very happy that it is not a colostomy balloon. Something I never thought I'd have to say. haha

Cotton, I appreciate that very much.

Lorraine, I think your comment means the most, lol. I hope you'll visit again, when I'm actually posting about something.

Robyn, Thank you. Always means so much to hear from you.

Amy, There's something awesome about saying don't stop, the end. It's like a sort of reconcilable paradox.

Copy, Thanks man. I know better than to eat any cake made by... anyone I know. haha.

Music, Thank you for the lack of singing, I think. Your name is musical, though shadows implies silence. So... Simon and Garfunkel?

  14. TS, I'm not sure when our paths first crossed, I know it was early in 2010. So I count myself among your early followers. I took a sentimental journey back to your first post and read several from last December. Dude, you started strong and remain strong. Congrats on the big 1 anniversary!

BTW, I thought Brothers was an intense movie, really liked it.

  16. Congrats. Now let me say this - a LIE DOWN? Get your ass up and get to blogging, bitch. Only ONE year? I thought November went fast. Truly you are one of my favorites and the fact that I can never predict what you are going to blog about or comment about or respond to is a gift in the land of sheep. You are truly the lone llama in that field if that makes any sense. Your math is faulty also. Grade more on a curve. You have earned it.

  17. Chuck, Thank you sir. You know, I still haven't seen brothers? I totally forgot about it! I must check it out now.

Margg, Glad I could give you a laugh or two. I've truly enjoyed reading your blog too.

Kal, Can't a lie down for a moment? Just a small one? You sir are one of my favorites too. Your blog is fantastic, and you personally helped keep me motivated early on when you were one of the few commenting. And for that I thank you.

  23. congrats to you!
I've been with you since very early on and your blog has gotten better with age. It was great to start out with and now it's one of the very best out there. Seriously!
So go ahead and lie down...

  24. Dude TS -- I saw a pic of the balloon in my reader before clicking in and couldnt read the text, but immediately thought to myself "Celabratory Balloon", so either you are a retroactive mind reader or the Non-Review has had a permanent affect on my psyche. I vote for both, Im bipartisan.

  25. Too bad you didn't make a dumb wager that you could do it for a year, or else you could be enjoying a Schweppes Raspberry Ginger Ale. It's awesome, though, how much you've done in a year. Lay down for as long as you want and have a Dr. Pepper on me. You're one of the great bloggers, which is why people find you, and more importantly stay with you. I'm glad you're still having fun and that you plan to continue. As I've said, you're one of the nicest guys out there, so it's great that you've done so well.

I do understand harsh self-criticism, so what that means to me is that you measure yourself by what you think your potential is, which bodes well for your readers. If you think that all of the awesomeness you've brought to the blogosphere averages out to a 4.25, then you'll be blowing our minds when you feel like an 8. I can't wait to see what this next year holds.

It's overused, yes, but I mean it: Congratulations.
