Review: Baby New Year 2010

Remember when he came toddling in on those chubby little legs of his back in January? We all thought he was the cutest thing. Full of promise with his rosy cheeks a glowing. But how were we to know back then that he would grow up at such an alarming rate? If we had only known that he had that Robin Williams disease. You know the one they covered in his biopic, 'Jack'. Never could understand why he called it that...

I admit, it was difficult at times seeing how quickly he aged. I remember back in April, he was like a young man on the prowl. Filled with energy and looking to make time with every pretty girl. How upset his parents were when he knocked up that waitress in Hoboken. But still he continued to age.

In the summer, he finally started to mature and grew out of his childish ways. He got a nice job and settled down in Connecticut. There he became, for a few months, active in the local community; helping with charitable drives and supporting the local sports teams. But time moved too quickly for the man New Year (who it should be noted changed his name in August to Daryl Smith) and he soon found himself middle aged.

Round about October, Daryl started losing interest in things that had kept him busy through the summer. He started becoming obsessed with politics. While he may have been misguided on most issues, at the very least, one couldn't deny the passion he argued his points with. What lasting effects his efforts will have remains to be seen.

Still as I look upon him now, lying there in a hospital bed, an aged old man with a long white beard, I still see the bright smiling babe that greeted us at the beginning of the year. Fitting that even has he himself tries desperately to cling to life, his unborn child, in the next room over, threatens to come prematurely. Will he have a chance to see his baby before he slips into that sweet goodnight? Sadly only Father Time will tell.

Have a safe and happy celebration tonight everyone! And may all our new years always be better than the last.
