7 Word Weekend Movie Review: The Ledge, Horrible Bosses, and a warning about Zookeeper

New Movie Releases Reviewed in 7 Words Each

The Ledge (limited) - Stop wasting my time and jump already.

Horrible Bosses - Spacey's back where's he's best, playing evil.

Zookeeper - Dear America, watch this and get slapped.

That's right, I'm prepared to slap an entire country.

I'd like to believe that people learned their lesson after the travesty that was Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and yet here we are. Look, I want to like Kevin James, I really do. I thought he was hilarious in Hitch. I thought he was... there, in Grownups. But he hasn't given any reason to think a movie based around him is a good thing. Zookeeper took five writers apparently. Do you really need five writers to pen a story about some shlub who's so bad at approaching women that he needs the aide of talking animals to help him out? Rex Harrison must be rolling over in his grave. Or possibly rolling over in Audrey Hepburn's... Yeah, that's how dead Rex Harrison rolls. But of course, the movie will do great. Somehow I'll end up seeing it, same way I ended up seeing Paul Blart. And I will feel the sting of my own palm as I slap the nation.

Do you remember when Kevin Spacey was cool? I do. It was a long time ago. Granted in the past couple years he's been working on being cool again. Moon was a great film and featured a good role for him. From the commercials, I can't help but feel that this is somewhat of a reprise of his role from Swimming With Sharks (which if you've never seen, do so and soon), which is what made me a fan for years. Than his Oscar taste drove him to do bad movies. A pitfall many a decent actor has fallen to. If he's truly headed back into good things, than I'll be happy. The film itself looks like it could be fun. There's a lot of comedic talent in this movie including Jason Bateman and Charlie Day. It's directed by Seth Gordon who has already shown what he's comically capable of with Four Christmases. So I'm definitely interested.

Course Seth Gordon was also recently tapped to do the upcoming WarGames remake. Why we need a remake when we had the incredibly horrible and hilarious sequel a couple years back is beyond me. But who am I to argue progress?

The Ledge... I don't know what it is about me, but anytime something is described as a 'sexy thriller' I immediately have the feeling it's going to be crap. I will say this for the film, it's co-stars Patrick Wilson and Terrence Howard. So even with Liv Tyler, it's still packing some decent acting power. But then it's also written and directed by the same man who was behind the abysmal What's the Worst That Could Happen? Ruining what was a chance to adapt one of the best books in Donald E. Westlake's Dortmunder series.

Which once again leads me to ponder aloud why there's never been a good adaptation of a Dortmunder book. And if anyone wants to suggests that The Hot Rock was good... Just... Don't. I feel ashamed for you.

What does everyone think of the new blogger redesign? I'm not sure I like it that much. Maybe it'll grow on me.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  5. "That's right, I'm prepared to slap an entire country." Shouldn't this have been done after Bush got re-elected?

  6. That was before I realized I had the power to slap nations.

  7. I'm betting you are right on the spot with these.  Spacey can be so good, I hope he is in this one, because I'm gonna see it.

  8. I haven't even seen anything for Zookeeper yet, but I realized who was in it and...just sighed.  Not much more you can do really.  I really want to see Horrible Bosses in it.  You're right Kevin Spacey is kick ass at being evil.  I hate to see actors typecasted, but....if the type fits really  really well, lol.

  10. The new Blogger design sucks. And badly I might add. I just wrote them a long diatribe about it. It couldn't be worse if I designed it my self. I feel I had joined a completely new blogging platform. I have wasted at least a half hour to night trying to navigate. they have made finding the dashboard (which is now Blogger Home) like Where's Waldo. Gotta go...really pissed about it. Thanks for the reviews BTW.
