The Help, 30 Minutes or Less, Final Destination 5: Weekend Review

New Movie Releases Reviewed in 7 Words Each

The Help - Quality is hard to find isn't it?

30 Minutes or Less - When the movie arrives it be cold?

Final Destination 5 - I wish it was the final destination...

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie - Gee, I wonder what the movie's about?

This toothbrush two pack I got said "one for now, one for later". Is their primary market really single people? Seems like a better line would have been, "One for you, one for them. Wink. Wink." and yes, 'wink, wink,' needs to be on it as well. Mind you, I did in fact use the second one later, but that's neither here nor there.

Oh right, movies...

I haven't read The Help, so I only have a basic idea of what it's about. Emma Stone, racism, the 60's, and housekeeping. I've done housekeeping, heard of the 60's, And I've never been big on racism. I do like Emma Stone, so 1 for 4 isn't bad. Not enough for me to care though.

To me the commercials for 30 Minutes or Less have been pretty bland. I think I'll make it a theme this week and count the pluses versus the negatives. Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson, Aziz Ansari, guy who directed Zombieland... All pluses in my book. Negatives include an unknown quantity in the writer, the crappy commercials, and the fact that I rarely like to lay down the price of admission for a possible run of the mill comedy. I think in this case the negatives once again outweigh the positives. I'll wait for video.

Wow, this so much easier to do it this way. But it's probably a one time thing. I'm just in another weird mood today.

This should be the easiest. Final Destination 5. Let's count the positives. Final Destination. And now the negatives... Part 2, 3, and 4. Isn't counting fun?

And then there was Glee...

He and Glee stood on opposite ends of the street. Their eyes locked as the sun beat down on their shoulders. His steely gaze was fastened hard on his opponent. A calculating hand flickered at the holster on his side. 'Cold blue fury' men had spoken of his guns. Glee standing opposite, also had its hand at it's holster. Held within was a baton. In a flash, Glee swung it up into the air and began twirling like there was no tomorrow. The old gunslinger looked on in horror for a few minutes before shaking his head slowly and walking away. It was a different time than when he had grown up. The world had no place for him in it anymore.

So yeah, that's pretty much how I feel about Glee.

Staying in pick of the week:

I watched a great documentary the other day. It's on Netlfix and streaming which was, granted, something in its favor. The Killing of a Chinese Cookie is an interesting look at fortune cookies. It does it's best to trace back it's history, one that's very subjective, leading to a lot of possible creators. There amusing stories, weird and wacky characters, and a humorous approach to directing. They cover everything from the how to, to the why we love them. And yes, they even cover the 'in bed' game. It's a short doc that's a lot like a fortune cookie, very light, but with fun packed inside.

I've got a question. What does everyone think of the new design of the blog? I'm not fishing for compliments or anything like that. Some of you have commented that you liked it, and I thank you. What I'm asking about is readability. Is the text easy to read like it sits currently? Is the background too distracting? I'll probably change it again in a few months since I'm fickle like that, but if it's hard to read I'll change it sooner rather than later.

Well, that's all the news from Lake Wobegone. Have a great weekend everyone!

  3. I love the new look although I think that swirly background is slowly hypnotizing me into killing my neighbors...or I could have come to that realization of my own. Either way, good work.

  4. I think the blog is looking good! The swirling background almost gave me a seizure, but I like it!
Of the group, I'm thinking the help looks pretty good. I'm right there with you on "final Destination." One can only hope it's true!

  5. Are u sure 30 mins or less has nothing to with those pizza houses springing up everywhere?...
Loved the glee thing...was busy imagining Clint Eastwood with his half bitten cigarette and one of the Glee actors(if u can call them that) running his fingers through the perfectly gelled hair...I am presuming its about the Glee that's the fodder for online gossip mags)....all in all a fun post...
    Enjoy your week.

  7. Think the new design is cool! Very 'professional.'
30 Minutes or Less is getting panned by the critics. Too bad, I thought about seeing it.

  8. I want to see 30 Minutes or less but I have a feeling it's going to be "eh" like Your Highness was so I think I'll just wait for netflix.

  10. I wish I could be one of those cool sneering kids and go 'Phbbt, I'm not watching that stupid Glee movie.' But the truth is if I have the money...totally will.

  11. Seriously? There is a 3-D Glee movie?! If they hadn't already gone too far.

I agree with the others. The blog look is cool, not distracting and very readable.
