Woman in Black Scariest Story Contest [UK]

Are you a budding horror writer in the UK or Ireland? Than Daniel Radcliffe wants to hear your best work.

I don't usually join in promotions for large contests, but this one just seems far too cool. Unfortunately it's only open to UK and Ireland residents (otherwise I'd be all over it), but that doesn't mean those of stateside can't enjoy it anyway. In essence, to promote his first post Potter film, Woman in Black, Daniel Radcliffe is in search of the scariest story in the UK. Rather than me going on, take a look at this quick video from Radcliffe:

And here are the details:

Daniel Radcliffe, the star of upcoming ghost story chiller, THE WOMAN IN BLACK, has launched an initiative to find the UK and Ireland’s scariest story.  He is urging budding writers to submit their own original short story to THE WOMAN IN BLACK YouTube channel.  The winning entry will be recorded by Radcliffe and included on THE WOMAN IN BLACK DVD and the winner will win a trip to London to attend the Premiere of THE WOMAN IN BLACK in early 2012.

Daniel Radcliffe announced the competition with a reading of an iconic scene from Susan Hill’s original novella.

Radcliffe adds some advice for potential entrants, “For all you budding writers out there remember that it’s 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration so good luck and I can’t wait to see what spooky stories you guys come up with in the coming months”

The competition will run exclusively on YouTube.   Entrants have to upload short videos of themselves reading their original ghost story through the film’s official YouTube page - www.youtube.com/thewomaninblackmovie.  The competition closes on the 20th of December 2011, whereupon ten finalists will be chosen and voted for by the public.  The winner will be announced on the 6th of January 2012.

A full set of terms and conditions are available on the YouTube channel.

I'm hoping some of my UK followers will enter. I know you're a talented group and I'd love to see what you guys come up with. For the rest of us, a visit to the page is worth it to listen to what others are coming up with.

  1. What a great contest. It will be interesting to see the results. Too bad you can't submit a story.

  2. Woof. I'd hate to hear the scariest story in Britain. I bet it's ten times scarier than in the U.S.

  3. Tres cool. Maybe we should move to the UK. Hm, then I would have to buy a ton of those crazy power converters, nevermind.

  4. 90% of the stories will be about the grueling Guinness shortage of '86.
