I wonder if anyone counts the words to make sure I stick to 7. Seriously I had a fantastic one, but it was over by a word, so I scrapped it. 7 words really is so constraining. Maybe in the future if I ever scrap this blog, start a new one, I'll break free of those constraints. Go with an 8 word review.
Is it wrong that when I saw the first ad for Flight, I thought it would be awesome if Denzel Washington was playing the role of Sully? Why should history be bound by color? Why can't Denzel play the whitest man alive? You know in your heart, this is what should have been. The movie looks okay, but not as good as if it'd been him playing Sully.
Wreck-It Ralph should be the winner this weekend in more ways than one. Box office? No brainer. It's got the appeal to kids of a funny cartoon and the nostalgia draw for adults. Everything about it looks like a well done film, and I've yet to see one bad review of it. It should play huge and with no real kids movies or cartoons on the horizon until Rise of the Guardians, it should play for a good long while.
At some point I do want to see the craziness that is The Man with the Iron Fists. The trailers have been outrageous enough. That's the kind of insanity that's bound to be fun, at least once, and especially with a group of friends. Also the look of Russell Crowe really does lend to that whole he-should-play-Roland-in-the-dark-tower-films. I know Howard wanted him, and to be honest, when I first started reading the books like 15 years ago, he was my dream casting. Yeah, yeah, that's old news your rehashing, why not talk about the big news from this week?
Alright, fine. I admit I'm psyched that Disney is acquiring LucasArts. I wrote an article a couple months back how they should remake Star Wars to save it from crazy old uncle George. This is much better. There's all kinds of rumors about how they've been working on the development for a year already, and how it'll be going off of Lucas' old story ideas from back before he went all crazy. After the last trilogy, I'm sure we're all glad to see it taken out of his hands. Sure he'll be a creative consultant. But that's tantamount to saying, hey George, look at these shiny keys. The fact they're pushing a 2015 release, at the very least means they have to have had some wheels turning already. Cause that's a short time to get the first film of a new trilogy finished.
So what's on the horizon for your weekend? Any of the new releases peaking your interest?
The reviews for Ralph are really good. I didn't include it in my movie post today but I might have to check it out.

ReplyDeleteI am in for Flight and Iron Fists. Anything with Denzel and anything that looks like Kill Bill gets me everytime.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in all the movies this week but sadly won't be seeing them until they are most likely on video. I hate that I rarely get to see movies in the theatre unless they are fodder for children. Maybe I will get to see Ralph soon... I still have a good weekend. I hope you did too. Stacy
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry about the seven word thing as long as it's consistent. Just rename it 8 word weekend. I agree this of better than a remake. They can built on whats already there instead of reforming it. Good times. Wreck it Ralph reminds me of Rampage and that's all I need to know.
