Weekend Movie Discussion: Oz The Great and Powerful

Dead Man Down... Colin Farrell Ha, yeah, please...

Oz The Great and Powerful is out this weekend, and all other releases can suck it. Including, but not limited to, Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey. No, you didn't read that title wrong. It's the story of the guy, Journey plucked from Youtube to be their current front man. How hard his life has been and how he's dealt with the sudden "fame". I think we all know why that word is in quotations. It's Journey, come on. At any rate the title alone screams please mock me with everything you have in you

Now if Stone Temple Pilots can find a young lad from oh, let's say, Ecuador, who can perfectly match Scott Weiland, try me again.

Ha... Dead Man Down... Do you even try anymore Farrell?

*Ahem* This:

It's going to be sweet. Even if it sucks, it'll be awesome. Yes, I'm prepared to love it unquestioningly. Though while we're on the subject of questions (weakest. segue. ever.) here's my question for the week: Have any of you read the awesome drug trip of a series the Oz books are? Forget Dorothy, there be some crazy happenings thereafter. I mean, I haven't read them since I was a kid, but I'm pretty sure even then I was like "What the hell?"

Good stuff.

What are your plans this weekend? Movie watching? Dance recitals? Hot dog vending? Not for the money, for the love of the game. Hey, I don't know what floats your boat, but it's all cool. No Judgments here. Not like you're going to see Dead Man Down this weekend...

Happy Weekending.

  1. I read the Oz books when I was a young adult. They were indeed very "trippy." A couple of them (besides the obvious) were made into movies during the silent era. Have you seen them? I know these books were written as "Children's books," but seriously, I think Baum was smoking out of the same opium pipe as Lewis Carroll.

  2. I'm seeing this afternoon in 3D. Even if the story isn't great, at least it will look good.

  3. I already have the James Franco/Oz doll displayed on my mantel.

  4. I'm looking forward to seeing Oz too, even though I'm not a huge Franco fan, it looks pretty cool.

  5. I haven't read the Oz books. I do really love "Return to Oz," though. Underrated, I say.

I have read "Alice's Adventures In Wonderland" (and "Through The Looking Glass And What Alice Found There") and they're completely trippy. It's no wonder all the adaptations have been a bit hit and miss, it's an impossible task to get the right zany feel.

  7. I didn't get out to the theater this weekend but I am looking forward to seeing OZ eventually. Lacrosse and more kids stuff was what my weekend was filled with. It is getting to be that "crazy busy" kid time of year.

  8. You're right about the Oz series. Even as a child,
Frank Baum always kind of worried me.
