Careening Cat

Careening into walls, Cal made his way through the house and out the door as best he could. He had been quietly napping when the house had begun shaking violently. His wife Marsha, he knew, would be in the garden out back. She was still there, untouched when he found her. The back yard however had been cut in half by what appeared to be a giant tank of some sort. In huge lettering the craft bore some alien message they couldn't decipher.

As they watched, it seemed to rumble to life and began to move across the red desert floor.

"Are you alright?" Cal asked, clutching his wife to his side.

"I'm okay, but what in the world is that thing?"

"I don't know. It's not like anything I've seen before. All I know is, no country on Mars has that kind of technology." he replied.

Marsha suddenly bolted out of his arms, a worried expression upon her face.

"Have you seen Muffin?" she asked excitedly.

As the big vessel moved, a tiny remnant of their pet appeared stuck to one of the tires.

"I'm sorry sweetie, but you know how inquisitive he always was. I think curiosity has killed our cat."
