I'd already decided not to do a 7 word review this week as the only film out is Batman, but in light of the events I thought I'd say a few words.
Safe to say that this is the movie that a lot of us have been waiting to see this year. The conclusion to Nolan's Batman Trilogy. It's horrible that even as many of us brave our way through the crowds to find some quiet sanctuary in what should always be a safe place, that a dozen people have lost their lives today because they happened to be in the same theater as an evil man. We go to theaters because they're a quiet place where we can relax, and let go of reality for a few hours. So we can communally enjoy film, bonding, without even talking to the strangers around us. An experience that happens millions of times each year.
I'm sure in the coming days talk will turn to movies influencing people, and Batman inspiring the shooter, and the like. This will always be connected with The Dark Knight Rises, but it's a senseless tragedy that would be heartbreaking no matter what the surroundings. And ultimately it's about the people that were there simply to enjoy a movie. Friends, family, strangers, connected by a shared excitement. People like us.
I will be heading out to see the film this weekend, as I'm sure many of you will, even as other are reeling from their personal tragedies. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and the families who were shattered by this.
