33 Non-English Covers Of English Songs

Whether you're studying another language, or just curious to know what Country Roads sounds like in Hebrew, we've got you covered. We scoured the internets to find some of the best, some of the oddest, and some of the most fun covers around.

Just a few rules were observed. One, the song had to be well known. Two, it had to be in another language. Three it couldn't just be some kid doing an awful cover in their bedroom (like Youtube is flooded with). And finally, much as we love hearing Johnny Cash belting out Ring of Fire in German, we avoided posting any songs where the artist themself was singing in a different language.

Happy listening, and make sure to let us know which cover you liked best.

Italian

Paola Turci - Questione di sguardi
Cover of Faith Hill's 'This Kiss'

Okay, so we're not sure what the deal is with the flying daggers in the video, but this Italian version of Faith Hill's song is magnifico. Better than the original, hands down.

Ligabue - A che ora è la fine del mondo?
Cover of REM's 'It's The End of The World'

It's safe to say that with most of the songs we can't say for sure how the translations match up to the original lyrics, and this cover is no exception. At least the video is... Just watch it.

Adriano Celentano - Pregueró
Cover of Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me'

There have been a lot of covers of Stand By Me over the years, but few match the passion and power being belted out by Adriano Celentano.

Hebrew

חוה אלברשטיין - זמן בבקבוק
(Chava Alberstein - Time in a Bottle)
Cover of Jim Croce's 'Time in a Bottle'

A simple, quiet, version of Croce's beloved song. Enjoy in particular the chorus, where she has to work hard to fit all the words in.

גבי שושן בהיר מחיוורון (ע"פ השיר
(Gabi Shoshan - Bright Shade of Pale)
Cover Procol Harum's 'Whiter Shade of Pale'

We tried to avoid posting multiple versions of the same song, but this is an exception to that rule.

יואב יצחק - מה מצאתי בך
(Yoav Yitzhak - What I found in you)
Cover of Bryan Adams' 'Everything I Do'

We know what you're thinking, and the answer is yes, Bryan Adams is amazing when sung in Hebrew.

אריק איינשטיין - אני מרגיש כמו מלך
(Arik Einstein - I feel like a king)
Cover of Donovan's 'Mellow Yellow'

Don't have any idea what Donovan was singing about in English (at the time it was widely speculated it was about using bananas to get high), then nothing should change as you enjoy this Hebrew version. Unless of course you speak Hebrew, in which case, what's this song about?

חנן יובל קאנטרי רוד
(Hanan Yovel Country Road)
Cover of John Denver's 'Country Roads'

There are at least a few words English speakers still be able to sing along with as you're not likely to find a Hebrew word for "West Virginia".

German

Hans Hass Jr - American Pie I & II
Cover of Don McLean's 'American Pie'

A German version of American Pie is everything you didn't know you wanted all in one song.

Romina Mercedes - Ich liebe nur dich
Cover of Leona Lewis' 'Bleeding Love'

If you thought the original was catchy, just wait till you find yourself singing 'ich liebe nur dich' in the shower.

Marianne Rosenberg - Wer Liebe sucht
Cover of Tammy Wynette's 'Stand By Your Man'

German really isn't considered one of the romantic languages (okay, so that probably has more to do with not originating from Roman, but that's neither here nor there), but try not to melt with this rendition of the Tammy Wynette classic.

P.B. and M.D. - Bohemian Rhapsody
Cover of Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

There are more than a few covers of Queen, and in particular Bohemian Rhapsody, but watch this video and you'll understand quickly why this was the one we had to post.

Finnish

Topmost - Merisairaat Kasvot
Cover of Procol Harum's 'Whiter Shade of Pale'

The other version mentioned earlier, but this one's totally different cause it's, ya' know...in Finnish.

Kai Hyttinen - Nosta lippu salkoon
Cover of Tony Orlando and Dawn's 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree'

We always expected the heartwarming message of this song could transcend all language barriers and here's proof. I bet dolphins even have a cover of the song, but about squids or something.

Päivi Paunu - Oi niitä aikoja
Cover of Mary Hopkins' 'Those Were The Days'

Technically, what you're listening to, is a Finnish version of a Russian song that had English words written for it. You can split hairs or you can enjoy your damn dinner the song.

Danny - Kesäkatu
Cover of Lovin' Spoonful's 'Summer in the City'

Dude owned the name Danny like he was Cher. If you can't love him for that alone, well, we probably can't be friends.

We're not done yet. Check out page two (deux, dos, שתיים) for the other half of the list.
