By The Numbers: Julia Roberts

Yes, old horse face herself. I've never understood America's love for Julia Roberts. I never thought she was a bad actress, necessarily, just overrated. Plus as I stated, she's got a horse face. But this is not an equine matter, it's an issue of figures and stats.

How this all works for those who don't know:

I take all the films an actor or actress has been in and break them down into three categories, 'Good' 'Bad' and 'Ok.' I do not count TV appearances or Made for TV movies. Afterwards a quick analysis will show whether or not they're a good actor by the numbers. Invariably there is a 2-3 +/- point bias on a person to person basis. Also, since ok movies are not bad they count towards the positive column in the overall figuring.

But I talk too much, let's roll out that chart:

This is the part of this I hate, but what hopefully proves to you people how unbiased I try to be. I would never have given her any credit had it been up to me, but tallying the score, Julia Roberts comes out to 58% positive over 42% negative. She is officially a "good" actress.

That's it for this week's edition. Remember I'm always open to requests as to who to review in the future. Just drop some names in the comments or fire me off a letter.

  1. That's cool! How about Ewan McGregor?

  2. @Tina oooh I like that suggestion. Ewen should be an interesting study because he's done a lot of indie films both good and bad. I'll definitely go with him for next week's.

@Pat nice to know others feel the same.

  3. LOL, I am so glad it's you doing this scientific study. If it were me I'd take the mediocre scores and apply half to good, half to bad and see what happens. But you are supremely unbiased!

  4. Haha, I do my best. I almost gave in to bias on this one though.

  5. Yes, but what about Municipal Court appearances...do you count those?

  8. can you really call Julia Roberts a horse face while Sarah Jessica Parker is still alive?

  9. I don't see why not. The black hole that is Sarah Jessica Parker, falls into a classification of its own. lol

  10. Oh man, my sister strongly dislikes julia roberts. And that has rubbed off on me.

Best picture choice for her. Well done with that.

Though for horse face I'd say I agree with the post above - half the "ok" should count toward bad. Not for everyone. Just for her. Bias is meant to be accepted.

  11. You and your sister are infinitely wise. I would love to have let bias shine through, but alas, I must be strong. If I compromise, people won't trust the numbers anymore.

  12. I'm hurt, stunned and hurt some more. I'd try to talk it out, but I'm all choked up. It just feels so personal.
