The Raid: Redemption, The Hunger Games: 7 Word Weekend Review

New Movie Releases Reviewed in 7 Words Each

The Raid: Redemption (limited) - Yeah, right, "Redemption" really adds so much.

The Hunger Games - I'm not starving, but I could eat.

The original title for The Raid: Redemption, was -well it's an Indonesian film, so obviously not in English- The Raid. Nice. Simple. Adding Redemption to it is pointless if you ask me. Doesn't tell you anything more about what you're seeing. Problems with the title aside, holy frijole, I want to see this film. It looks brutal. No, that's not enough emphasis. Brutal. That's better. I've heard it described as the best action film in years. The film in short is about an apartment block that houses a drug lord and his crew. A swat team planning on taking him in secret gets found out, and find themselves locked in, having to battle their way out. If you're a fan of action films, this will not be one to miss. Especially since A US remake was already announced awhile ago. It's only limited this weekend but it should expand in the coming weeks. Hopefully nearby cause its limited run isn't hitting my area.

But that's alright, because this weekend is spoken for anyway. And what do you know, it's also a bloody film. I haven't yet read The Hunger Games, but I've been hearing about it from friends for awhile. I've already figured on breaking down and reading the book, but that can hold while I watch the pretty flashing lights on the big screen. Ooooh, shiny... It's been compared to films like Battle Royale for its themes. Doesn't bother me in the least. It's dark and dystopian, and that's always a win for me. You know, not in reality. In reality it bites.  You know what I mean. At any rate, it's filled up my dance card this weekend.

So what you guys seeing this weekend?

  1. Not sure if I'm seeing anything this weekend.

  2. I'm torn between wanting to read the books first or go see the movie. Usually I like to be on the superior side and go snobbish and read first, watch later, so I can moan about how badly the visual media messed up the literary version.

  3. The Hunger Games is the new film everyone wants to hate on for no reason whatsoever. With that said, I too want to see both movies discussed in this article.

  4. Loved the Hunger Games books - haven't decided if I'm going to see the film or not. I'm waiting to see what people think :)

  5. I read the books and loved them. I always have to read the book first or I don't bother to read it at all after I see the movie.

I was planning to go see Hunger Game this weekend until I saw the news last night where they were reporting on how many people were standing in line to go. And how bit opening weekend was going to be. I'll wait a few days before I go and skip the crowds.

The other one sound interesting too.

  6. My husband bought Outlander and we watched it today. I thought it was good.

  7. I have read the first one of Hunger Games. While it's released here, not sure if I am gonna see it.

  8. I have Hunger Games penciled in for a Tuesday afternoon matinee with the wife. I'm ready!

  9. I'm curious what you ended up thinking of the hunger games! You should post about that!
